When is the best time to visit Danube Delta?

Pretty much everybody who’s been interested in the Danube Delta for a while knows what the cool things that you can do here are.

Well, some of you are really anxious to visit Danube Delta, but you really want to get here when the time is right, so that you can get to see everything that the place has to offer.

Well, officially, the season starts from late March and lasts until late October. That’s a rough guide, but I personally believe the best time would be from the first of June till the end of August, temperature wise. I like to do a lot of camping and spending the night in a tent can be quite interesting in April :)

These months are also great because if when all the migrating species are here, rightfully giving the delta its title of “bird paradise”.

Also, every worthwhile festival that takes place here, it’s exactly during these three summer months: Anonimul Film Festival in Sfantu Gheorghe, Delta Music Fest, Sulina music festival, Peștișorul de Aur and a whole bunch of others.

That’s not to say that other months are bad. The autumn, for instance, is much better for seeing certain species of birds and also it’s the time when most of the fishing takes place.

The winter in a little more…challenging, so to say. First of all, pretty much all of the birds that were here having a great time during the summer have left for warmer places. The cormorants are a little lazier than most, so they stay here for the winder, catching fish by digging holes in the ice.

Sometimes, when it’s super cold outside and the layer of ice is too thick, they migrate closer to the villages and towns nearby. That’s what happened last year when a few cormorants came to Tulcea’s promenade where they ate leftovers that sailors threw out.

There were people who asked me whether February was a good month to come here, and I had to convince them that it really is not. The whole winter is pretty rough. Not as much because of the temperatures but rather because of the Siberian wind that blows until you can feel it through your bones.

Well, that was my recommendation. You set your own schedule for your trips.
